Rati Devi Sivyer

Rati Devi Sivyer (b. 1997, England) is a self-taught artist inspired by the Indian miniature tradition. For Rati, the act of painting begins before the brush meets the surface. Her practice is rooted in deep material sensitivity - from the preparation of wasli paper to the hand-mulling of earth and mineral pigments.

Raised in the Vaishnava tradition, the divine forms of Radha and Krishna were a daily presence in her life. The devotional works of B.G. Sharma sparked a curiosity that grew into a decade of dedicated study and exploration, and this artistic lineage continues to inform her work.

Rati was commissioned by Eiesha Bharti Pasricha, Creative Director of Estelle Manor, to produce a series of meditative paintings for Eynsham Baths, part of the Estelle estate. Her work has also featured as album art for kirtan artists Jahnavi Harrison and Radhika Dasa.

In recent years, she has developed a distinctive visual language using ovoid-born forms, rendered with fine brushstrokes that spiral, hum, and echo. These are often accompanied by intricate paper cut-outs, inspired by traditional block printing and jamdani textile motifs.

Fascinated by birds, Rati often explores themes of nests, eggs, and energy sources — meditations on pushing, resting, seeking, expanding, and rising. They reveal a play of the container, the contained, and the potential of the space beyond.

Seeking to evoke gentleness in her work, Rati’s art calls us to honour sensitivity as a vital force in the human journey towards ascension.
