Nasal Guard

Place of Origin: DECCAN, INDIA

Date: 17th Century

Length: 320mm (12 3/8 Inches)

Reference: 219

Status: Sold

Full Description:

Hailing from the Deccan region, this iron nose guard would have complemented a high quality 17th century helmet and was likely owned by someone of wealth. Elegantly proportioned, the slender guard terminates in a wide, lobed crescent with small knops concluding each wing, the guard’s top and the bottom. The entire piece has been decorated with silver, painstakingly arranged to present intricate floral patterns to the onlooker. Similar such guards and the helmets they augmented can be seen in The Arts of the Muslim Knight by Bashir Mohamed[1] and in the associated Furusiyya Art Foundation Collection.
