Full Description:
A 19th century keris from West Java with a distinctive pamor (blade pattern) known as pamor ganggeng kanyut (floating water weed). The dapur (blade shape) is classified as jalak ngore.
The wooden scabbard has a large wrangka (boat shaped scabbard throat) known as gayaman kagok bancihan in palm wood. The pendok (scabbard covering), bunton banyumas in tombak with alas-alasan motifs. A classical hilt of jejeran yudowinotan classification in kemuning wood, The mendak (ring which sits between the hilt and blade) in gilt silver.
Often the original intention that the keris has magical and spiritual qualities is ignored, and the keris just considered an object or a weapon. In honour of the traditions of the keris and the empu (talented smiths) who made them, I would like to note what each pamor represents.
